David Sousa in an interview with “Vida Económica”

In an interview with the financial newspaper “Vida Económica”, David Sousa, director of SEMPER, states that “harvest insurances are not adequate to the productive reality“, and highlights the important role of SEMPER, in whose solutions, contrary to what happens in traditional policies, the payment of indemnities is not held hostage to lengthy expert opinions. It is actually the opposite, says David Sousa, who recalls that “all the work of defining losses is done when the policy is signed”, which makes the payment of indemnities much faster.

“The main barriers for Portuguese farmers to take out insurance will be related to the general perception of the inadequacy of harvest insurance to the productive reality”, declares the director of SEMPER.

And “perhaps more important”, says David Sousa, is “the Government’s still very active role in compensating producers through disaster funds”. In an interview with “Vida Económica”, David Sousa leaves a guarantee to the farmers: “in contrast to traditional policies, the payment of indemnities is not dependent on lengthy and complex expertise”, since “all the work of defining damages is done in the act of conclusion of the policy”. Thus, “the payment of indemnities is much quicker than in the general insurance activity”.
